24 October 1998 The Essence Of Childhood I pull the sheets up tight around me And my pillow covers my ears But still I hear the screams And wonder why? I tiptoe quietly in the night To the bathroom where blood covers the sink I clean up the mess As I ask why? My sleep is chilled with awkward silence All my dreams fade to black I awake before the sunlight And think why? I crawl slowly out of bed to the distant sound of sirens He cries over her limp body And all my questions are answered Still I ask why? His deed was finally done They finally took him away Finally I live in peace But I am all alone And they say that I’m too young to Understand why.
