FIRST STAR

I've always been this way
I lay
Thinking unrational thoughts
I caught
A glimpse of my destiny
Degree
Of where I will end up and where I
Will be

Shattering the sky
Breaking through with impulsive light
Pierce the heavens with an almighty sign
On the 3000th day the star will be mine

You could leave me hanging on the first star
I'd sit above and watch over all
Telling made up stories of fortune
Drop me off on the first star in the evening

Pulsing and glowing, the first a child sees
As they play and stifle the last of day
Wish upon my star, then wait in line
For me to cast an eye upon your desire

I see the leader every night
In the cold and dim glowing light
All of the others follow suit
When they see the flaming beauty they see

Please, look up, the first star in the evening
Look very closely, through all seeking eyes
Take a second glance for you might miss
What I've been waiting to show you, a surprise

I've been left hanging on this first star
