8 Sept 1998 Drowning As I think back I can still hear the sound Of the waves hitting the rocks And I can hear the familiar voice Calling me to sit and whisper words of friendship, While watching the clear bright blue. The sun soon disappeared And the moon took it’s place as the light began to fade. We remained Making pictures in the sand, With shells and tiny stones, Left a picture in my mind That I cannot escape. We all sat there on the rocks And when the water came up to meet us Promises were made. The words seemed to be ‘for the moment’ And then they were slowly carried off in the warm summer breeze. Night turned to day. On the rocks I sat alone, Water still crashing, people still talking Yet something had changed and as the world lay asleep I awoke to see my dreams swept out with the tide. Now nothing I can do can get them back And I’m drowning.
